Dear Friends and Followers,
I want to introduce my new site to you. ElderAuthority.com has been live for over two months, but I wanted to wait until it had some legs before announcing it to my current readers. My vision since I started blogging was to create a central repository of information about aging, eldercare, and doing our best work during the last third of life. I wanted it to be free and usable by people of any generation.
TheNewElder.com CONTINUES
TheNewElder.com is a very personal commentary on caregiving and getting old, and I think it is some of the best work I have done. However, TheNewElder has not reached the broad audience I had hoped to reach, and, does not contain the level of expertise I would like to achieve on a wide variety of topics.
SEEKING AN “ELDER EVERYTHING” SITE
When I became a caregiver, my biggest challenge was NOT about finding information on any specific topic related to my problem. There was SO MUCH information that my brain simply could not process it all. I wished for ONE site that would aggregate the best of the best advice and make it available to me so that I could access it even when I was panicking. The site did not exist.
There are a number of good websites out there on various aspects of aging–everything from caregiving, to the eldercare products, to finding work, to senior housing, to dying, to jokes. Until now, there has been no single “elder everything” site.
ELDERAUTHORITY.COM FILLS A GAP
ElderAuthroity.com fills that gap. It is FREE and will continue to be FREE. It showcases original posts, but also aggregates videos, lectures, articles, and links to explain certain topics better than I can ever hope to do.
Readers can request posts on specific topics. ElderAuthority.com will research the topic and make the information available to everyone. As Managing Editor, I am responsible for the content and quality of the information provided. Some topics may be controversial, but there will be a forum for voicing alternative opinions. In time, I hope readers will provide their own comments so that we can collect and share a repository of non-expert advice–sometimes the best emotional intelligence and practical resource of all.
With the aging of 78 million baby boomers, we are all going to need more help than we can afford. Younger generations will require as much help as the older ones. We must support each other because there will not be enough social services, doctors, grants, support groups, or money for our gigantic aging society.
EXCHANGES BETWEEN SITES
I will continue to post my weekly “New Elder’s Blog” to my current subscriber list. At times there will be references from one site to the other. If you want to subscribe to ElderAuthority.com grab the RSS Feed. I will not sign you up because it posts each day, and I never want you to feel spammed. If you want to support ElderAuthority.com please comment on the posts, forward the link to your friends, and, of course, subscribe if you have a current need.

Sometimes you have to stop waiting for someone else to make things better and just do it yourself. Gandhi said it best, but I feel like saying it in my own words today. Thank you for your support.

Way to go neighbor! I read all your articles but am not really an active ‘blogger’ and don’t post comments but couldn’t pass up a big “Congrat’s” on your developing and important work.
